How I Got My First 50 Clients Using CoachCompass
By Reza Daryaei
New coach Elena shares her step-by-step journey from zero clients to a thriving practice, all through optimizing her CoachCompass profile and building trust online.
Starting From Absolute Zero
I got my coaching certification in March. By April, I had exactly zero clients, zero reviews, and zero confidence that this career change was going to work.
I'd left a stable HR management position to pursue my dream of becoming a career coach. My friends thought I was brave. My mother thought I was crazy. Most days, I agreed with my mother.
Discovering CoachCompass
A fellow coaching school graduate told me about CoachCompass. "It's not like other directories," she said. "People actually find coaches there." Skeptical but desperate, I created my profile. Looking back, it was the best career decision I ever made.
The Profile That Changed Everything
My first profile was terrible. A selfie as my photo. A bio that read like a resume. No intro video. I got zero inquiries in the first month.
Then I studied the profiles of top-rated coaches on the platform. I noticed patterns:
I revamped everything:
The First Client
Three days after the revamp, I got my first inquiry. Sarah was a marketing manager considering a career switch. She told me later that my intro video made her feel like I understood her situation.
That first session was nerve-wracking, but it went well. Sarah left a 5-star review. That review attracted two more clients. Those clients left reviews. The snowball had started.
Scaling to 50
Over the next six months, I built my practice using strategies I learned from the platform:
1. **Asked every client for a review** (politely, after session 3)
2. **Kept my availability updated** so I appeared in search results
3. **Published my coaching course** on the platform for passive income
4. **Responded to inquiries within 2 hours** (speed matters!)
5. **Offered a competitive rate initially**, then gradually increased as reviews accumulated
By month 8, I had 50 active clients and a waitlist. By month 12, I raised my rate from $75 to $150/hour with no drop in demand.
The Numbers
What I'd Tell New Coaches
Your CoachCompass profile IS your storefront. Invest time in it. Get an intro video up. Be specific about who you help. And deliver results that earn reviews. The platform does the marketing if you give it something worth marketing.
